Nigeria, South-Africa Collaborate on Space Technology, Cyber Security Nigeria and South Africa have strengthened collaborations in the area of Space-Technology, Cyber Security and research for sufficient military production in the African continent. This was made known in a communique issued after the 4th Nigeria – South Africa Defence Committee Meeting (DEFCOM) hosted by Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence in Abuja. In a statement signed by Permanent Secretary of the Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence, Mrs Nuratu J Batagarawa and the Secretary for Defence of the South African Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans, Dr Sam Gulube, noted the mutually benefitting cordial relations between Nigeria and South Africa and called for renewed efforts to further enhance the relationship in the overall interest of both nations and the African continent. “Noted the strategic engagement between the Chief of Defence Intelligence of both countries in the areas of Space Technology and Cyber Security and welcomed continued collaborative efforts by both countries to complement their respective Counter-Terrorism Strategies. “Recognised the need for collaboration between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the South African National Defence Force in the area of specialised training, equipment and production of specialised military vehicles. Both parties also agreed that the issues should be handled between Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and its South African counterpart. “Considered the various opportunities in the Naval Training Institutions of both countries and agreed that available courses should be forwarded through the appropriate diplomatic channel. Both parties also agreed that invitation should be extended by the Navies of both countries for participation in regular sea exercises. “Noted the development attained by the Nigerian Army in the production of Infantry Patrol Vehicles, Nigerian Army Helicopter project and the Jilt Rotor UAV and acknowledged the need for further collaboration by both countries to actualise the objectives of these projects.
